As an Iranian living in Vaughan, finding authentic food that goes beyond standard kebab can be a real challenge. Since Iran shares so many wonderful culinary traditions with its neighbors, I decided to give this beautiful Azerbaijani restaurant a try and I’m so happy that I did! The decor is absolutely stunning, decorated with lots of Azeri art. The service was friendly, and offered great recommendations. The Dolma: Truly some of the best I have ever had! Fresh and packed with flavor. Dipping the dolma in yogurt too made it even better! Lavangi: Recommended by the staff, and it blew me away. The rich walnut filling gave me that comforting, nostalgic feel of a delicious home-cooked Fesenjoon. Azerbaijani Pasta: My boyfriend ordered this dish that had lamb, onions, and pomegranate. He absolutely loved it! Chai/ Turkish Coffee: My boyfriend liked the Turkish coffee and I loved the chai I was served. And having it with baklava was great. If you are looking for authentic Azeri cuisine, amazing decor, and great service, Karvan Restaurant is a must visit. We will definitely be back!

Location is easy to get to with ample free parking around the building. I went in on a Thursday evening with no reservations and it was pretty calm. Fun colouful aesthetics, and good food overall with interesting flavours. Also worth highlighting the food wasn't salty! We tried a few menu options including.. ichli kofte (really good/favourite dish, highly recommend; deep-fried bulgur shell filled with spiced ground meat), hummus and baba ghanoush (good, especially the bg; came with a housemade bread), kofte plate (good; kebab was rather dry/ overcooked), Khinkali (liked, but dough was a bit too thick for me throwing off the dough to filling ratio; Georgian beef-lamb dumplings) Azerbaijani baklava (enjoyable; it was my first time trying Azerbaijani style, it was less flakey than the Turkish style, definitely worth trying if you like baklava), and finally drinks had great flavour - Turkish tea (weaker than usual but still good), regular coffee (also brewed light, but preferred that way). Tip - ask for honey on the side to add to your tea/coffee instead of sugar :) Recommendations - would be nice to have appetizers dip platter as they each need to be purchased separately and come in a large portion, and although we got two dips we only got one bread with them. All in all I would return to try more dishes :)

Both myself and my wife were happy with the dishes we got. The only problem was that she was almost done with hers by the time I got mine. Prices are reasonable, but there are better deals out there. Overall, we had a good time and enjoyed the food and decor of the place.

A lovely Azerbaijani spot near the northeast end of York University. A nice space. I got the Adjari Khachapuri which I think is a classic Georgian cheese bread with egg. It was very good! Quite filling, I think it was enough for two people. It came with some type of sauerkraut like pickled cabbage which went really nicely with the food. Not sure if it was supposed to be eaten separately but I felt it paired really nicely with the khachapuri. I got a tea too and it was very nice.

Karvan Restaurant is one of the most authentic Azerbaijani restaurants in the GTA. The interior is beautiful, featuring a large wall photo of the Baku skyline. Service was warm and friendly, and the feijoa juice was unique and refreshing, with real fruit inside. Highly recommended!
